Minutes to downtown San José del Cabo for art, galleries, and great restaurants
About 20 minutes from Los Cabos International Airport (SJD)
Beach Access Note: The beach is an easy walk down, but the walk back up is a bit of a climb. If you’re older, less active, or simply want to save your energy, we recommend taking an Uber home. Many guests walk to the beach and Uber back.
Because the home sits above the coastline near the highway, you may occasionally hear some road noise.

Costa Azul / La Jolla (Gated Community)
Casa Olas Grandes is located in the gated La Jolla community in the Costa Azul area of San José del Cabo—an awesome home base for surfing, beach time, and exploring the Los Cabos corridor. Please note: to access the beach from the neighborhood, you’ll cross the Transpeninsular Highway, so we recommend extra care and using safe crossing points.
Prime Surfing Location (Costa Azul)
You’re minutes from the legendary Costa Azul surf zone, including Zippers and other nearby breaks that can work for a range of surf levels depending on swell and conditions. The Costa Azul Surf Shop is nearby and is a great resource for rentals, lessons, and local surf intel.
Beach Time + Swimmable Options Nearby
Costa Azul is perfect for sunrises, beach walks, and surf watching, but conditions can vary. If you’re looking for calmer water, we recommend heading to Palmilla Beach, a well-known Blue Flag beach with more protected swimming conditions.
Downtown San José del Cabo (Dining + Art Walk)
Downtown San José del Cabo is a short drive for cobblestone streets, galleries, and great restaurants. Don’t miss the San José del Cabo Art Walk, typically held Thursdays 5–9pm (November–June).
Groceries & Essentials
It’s easy to stock up in San José del Cabo with major grocery options (La Comer / Chedraui / California Ranch Market) and plenty of convenience stores along the corridor. Costco Los Cabos (near Cabo San Lucas) is typically about 25–35 minutes by car from the San José del Cabo area depending on traffic (roughly ~28 km / ~24 minutes from San José del Cabo).
Flora Farms (Farm-to-Table)
A must-do near San José del Cabo: Flora Farms is a beautiful organic farm with a popular farm-to-table restaurant, plus a bar, shops, and a spa—perfect for a special lunch or dinner outing. Reservations are required.
Puerto Los Cabos Marina (Fishing + Boat Days)
For fishing trips, whale watching, and boat excursions, Puerto Los Cabos Marina is the main marina hub in San José del Cabo and an easy drive from the house. We recommend reaching out to our friends at Abigail Sportfishing.
Cabo San Lucas Day Trip
Cabo San Lucas is an easy outing for the marina, excursions, and the famous Arch—close enough for a day trip, far enough that you can come home to a quieter neighborhood.
East Cape Adventure (Beaches, Surf, Cabo Pulmo)
If you want a more rugged Baja day trip, head up the East Cape for wide-open beaches, fewer crowds, and epic views. Popular areas include Zacatitos, La Fortuna, Nine Palms, and Shipwrecks—with some spots around ~40 minutes from San José del Cabo.
For snorkeling/diving, Cabo Pulmo is a bucket-list trip—about 66 km and roughly 1 hour 50 minutes by car from San José del Cabo.
SJD Airport
Los Cabos International Airport (SJD) is an easy drive from Casa Olas Grandes (~20min). Many guests use Uber/taxis for getting around San José del Cabo, or rent a car if they plan to explore day trips like the East Cape. We’re also happy to help arrange private transportation for a smooth arrival.

Yes. The building has a filtered water system that makes the water safe for brushing teeth, washing dishes, and rinsing fruits and vegetables. For drinking water, there is also a dedicated drinking-water filter located next to the kitchen sink.
Beachfront within ~5 minutes (walk): Zipper’s, Pescadito Break, Mariscos Costa Azul & Seven Seas (walkable at low tide)
Within ~10–15 minutes (walk) Retro Burger, El Pancake House, Mamma Mia & Fabric Sushi
Yes. Las Olas offers on-site parking for guests staying in the complex. Parking is first come, first serve in the unshaded parking area, and each condo is allocated one parking pass/space for the duration of the stay.
Las Olas Condos are located about 15–25 minutes from Los Cabos International Airport (SJD), depending on traffic. We recommend taking the toll road, which is typically the fastest and most direct route to San José del Cabo. The toll is usually around $3–$5 USD.
Drivers can also take the free highway, which goes more through local streets and may take a bit longer depending on traffic.
If you'd prefer not to worry about directions, our team can also help arrange airport transportation with a trusted local driver who will meet you at the airport and bring you directly to the condo. Many guests also choose to stop at the grocery store on the way to stock up before arriving.
Guests have access to a private surf locker that includes:
1 soft top surfboard and 1 boogieboard, 4 beach chairs, 1 beach umbrella and a beach cooler.
